We teamed up with the buds and neighbors at iconic Venice Beach, CA skate shop Venice Originals to create a limited edition of our The Garageland sunglasses.
Venice Originals was founded in 2007 by Bones Brigade skateboarder Jesse Martinez and photographer/filmmaker Cesario "Block" Montano. Having both grown up in Dogtown's skateboarding heyday, Jesse and Block set out to create a skater-owned and operated shop that the neighborhood lacked; an authentic/core skate shop for Venice's skateboard community. Specializing in a carefully curated selection of local brands, shop label and finer skate goods, V.O. separates itself through a focus on community, authenticity and support for the next generation of Venice skateboarders.
This limited edition of The Garageland sunglass comes in matte Venice navy blue, referencing the shop's trademark bandana exterior and the color of the Venice Skateboard Association. The frame features custom V.O. temple logos, lens-etching and inside stem detailing, hand-lettered by Jesse's son and shop managing partner, Julian "Juice" Martinez.
Limited to only 200 pairs and exclusively available in-store at Venice Originals and online via Crap Eyewear.
For the lookbook, we headed to the Venice Originals shop and linked up with members of the V.O. family — skateboarding legend Eric Dressen, Crap skate fam Blake Johnson and local ripper Haden McKenna. Filmmaker Dayten Likness met us with his 16mm rig and we made our way down to the park. For the soundtrack, Josh Landau of Crap music fam The Shrine blessed us with a fuzzy Venice boardwalk-style guitar jam while Juice Martinez narrates the past, present and future of Venice Originals. Watch above.
